Neurodivergent people, such as those with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and more, often have specific talents and skills yet remain easily overlooked, misunderstood, or not fully integrated into society and companies. With an estimated one in five people being neurodivergent, this group of underappreciated people and talent is immense.
However, companies can benefit significantly from the skills they bring to the table: increased diversity, innovation, intrapreneurship, creativity, accuracy and problem-solving skills.
We’ve recently seen an increase in attention to neurodiversity. More people are getting diagnosed, and society is slowly starting to understand their struggles and strengths. Tech companies such as Microsoft, SAP, DXC Technology and IBM have also discovered the unique benefits and are running neurodiversity hiring initiatives and programs.
Now it’s time for smaller companies in and outside of Belgium to tap into this large talent pool and become more neuroinclusive.
From the inception of Bjièn in February 2021, neurodiversity has always been part of the company’s DNA. Daphné De Troch has confirmed ADHD and suspicion of autism, while Dietrich Moerman has confirmed ADHD and ASD. During our 11-year track record in Belgian companies, we gradually discovered the strengths and weaknesses of being neurodivergent, learning what neurodivergent people need in their organisation and how enablement can make companies thrive.
By refocusing Bjièn’s consulting services, we help Belgian and Dutch companies with awareness, understanding and acceptance of neurodiversity, as well as implementing neuroinclusive approaches and strategies. As a result, the work environment becomes more accessible, neurodivergent employees can fully utilise their specific skills, and companies develop a competitive advantage.
Many thanks to the people who helped us develop this business idea, make the pivot, and our early clients in neurodiversity!
